[Blog] Nonsense by Betty

Annyeonghaseyo,

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. As for me, its been depressing and just disappointing. Now, I know a few others who are in more difficult situations than I am (whether it be work, home or school) and so I would like to apologize if I’m whining but I just felt like venting and also because Cynth has asked me to post a blog, so here goes…

So, for the past few weeks I have been slacking off (studying) and am trying to focus once again on getting my stuff together and push forward (for lack of a better phrase). So, I have been applying for jobs and have not gotten any positive responses, lol . I also contacted my counselor at my University and wanted to set up an appointment with him/her so that I can get advice on how to proceed with Medical School after my MCAT but I haven’t gotten a response yet. Oh, they’re real quick to call you and bug you all day when you owe them money but when you need help…’I’m not at my desk at this moment but if you leave your name and number I’ll get back to you as soon as possible’, my ASS!

Oh, and another thing why does it seem that more than half of the advisors don’t really know how to advise?! Yea, someone who recommends that you take Organic Chemistry, Physics and Genetics all in one semester just so you can get it ‘out of the way ‘ obviously has never had a full science course load EVER! Did I mention that each class has a three hour laboratory session? Yea. Now, I’m not saying that a full science course load is impossible. I had Physics II, Biochemistry and Biomedical Ethics (and I took a Jane Austen Literature class just to change it up a bit!) in my final semester of college and I pulled through with A’s and B’s but I had no life. Actually, I didn’t have a life for four years, lol. Who the hell has time to enjoy campus life when you’ve got to study your ass off so that your GPA doesn’t fall and you don’t go on Academic probation and you don’t lose your scholarships and grants because you don’t have 10 grand to pay for one semester? Wow, try saying that all in one breath, lol. But I’m not going to cry over it, I would just be wasting my time. Instead I am going to keep on bugging the counselor until she calls and keep on looking for a job or I might just blow it all off for a year and teach somewhere (yea right!), lol. My little piece of advice for any college students is to speak with their professors and ask them for advice. Chances are that they also went through the same strenuous and difficult experiences and are better able to provide you with honest answers rather than guesses. I hardly ever went to my professors because I felt that I was bothering them…how pitiful am I?

Anyways, that’s about it. I just felt the need to get it all out of my system and I would rather blow up at my computer than take it out on someone who’s probably got their own mess to deal with and doesn’t need to hear mine. So, I sincerely hope everything turns out well not just for me but for everyone else who is in the same predicament or whose struggles are worse.

Kimchi kisses and ddeokbokki dreams!

  1. Awww. I'm thinking of you hon. I lucked out with my adviser in college b/c he was my prof. for many of my classes (I went to a small college and though I had planned on attending graduate school, I chickened out). I'm rooting for you, Betty!

  3. Story of my LIFE. lol

Though I could argue that I have SOME sort of social life right now, it sucks having to encounter real life, which they offer no courses or training for in college; it's just something that you have to deal with, whether you like it or not. And after you DO graduate, maintaining a high GPA is the LAST thing on your mind. I'll probably be feeling that once I finish school (hopefully, a semester early! :D)

I wish the best of luck in whatever you do! Betty HWAITING! lol

  5. First and foremost, never apologize for needing to vent. We all have moments when we just need to get it all out, anyone who's been through shit knows this and won't/shouldn't blame you.

Secondly, I have a challenge for you, should you chose to accept it. I want you to devote a whole week, 24 hours a day for 7 days, to looking at nothing but the beauty, the happiness, and the positive things that surround you. Keep a journal of these things, and the way that they make you feel, as well as anything that happens to you in that week. At the end of those 7 days sit down and reflect on all of the good things that happen to you, and on your feelings and such.

And yes it does seem easier said than done, believe me I know that. But I promise that you will see the difference in you, as well as around you, after the fact.

Otherwise, I know you to be a strong woman...at least from what I can tell. I have a feeling that you can tough these obstacles out, as you obviously have in the past. Just don't lost yourself in the process.

Anyhow, I have babbled enough so I must go. Do let me know if you decide to take my challenge or not though.

  6. Gracias to everyone for the nice and encouraging words.

@NykolaiBasket, if you really like school then go back. Graduate school does seem intimidating (for me anyways) but I bet its worth it. Thanks!

@Anthony Fisher, finishing a semester earlier...what an over-achiever. Just kidding, lol. It'll feel so good to get it all done with earlier than planned. But it'll probably be a hectic semester, lol. Good Luck! Thanks!

@Katy, I'm trying to stay positive. Thank You!

@SecretAgent00Fag, I understand what you're saying but sometimes it feels weird publically saying/writing my troubles just because they are mine to deal with and so why should others have to read my mess? LOL. But since the thoughts wouldn't get out of my head...
Thanks for suggesting the journal exercise, lol. All the good things have to do with my family and friends. I am grateful to them for everything.

Anyways, I think I've written enough, lol. So again, thank you to everyone for the encourgagement and to Chandramukhi and Kareena (you know who you are)and to Rani Mukherjee (Dori that's your new name).
Good luck to everyone and I sincerely hope the best for you all!

Its 12AM! April 17th is here! Do you all know what that means? It's Lee Jun Ki's birthday!!! Saengil Chukahamnida JunKi sshi!!
