A photo of a topless Tomomi Kasai being fondled from behind by a young boy could prove to be costly for Kodansha
The publisher embroiled in a scandal over an “inappropriate” photo of a member pop group AKB48 may face a host of problems, reports Yukan Fuji (Jan. 13). Comic book weekly Shukan Young Magazine, which is published by Kodansha, announced on January 11 that the issue originally scheduled to hit newsstands the following day would be delayed. The problem was the suitability of including an image featuring a topless Tomomi Kasai being fondled from behind by a young boy. The magazine offered readers an apology on its Web site. “The photo contains an inappropriate expression,” read a statement from the editorial staff.
The photo in question — which utilizes what is referred to as a te-bura (or hand bra) pose — comprises the cover shot for the 21-year-old’s debut photo collection called “Tomo no Koto, Suki?” (Do You Like Tomo?), which is scheduled to be released (also by Kodansha) on February 4. A promotion for the book was what was supposed to appear in Young Magazine.
As a result, one journalist expects Kodansha to suffer a substantial monetary loss. “With a circulation of 650,000 copies, losses in terms of printing, advertising, and subscription fees will be over 300 million yen,” says Masaaki Hiruma. Publishing in recession-stricken times is already troublesome enough, continues Hiruma. “So manga comics like Young Magazine are cash cows for Kodansha,” the journalist says.
From a legal standpoint, child welfare laws may also pose problems for Kodansha. Masaru Wakasa, a lawyer and former deputy director of special investigations at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Office, says that under such statutes Kodansha is prohibited from harmfully influencing the mind and body of a child less 18 years of age through obscene acts. “In this case, a juvenile is touching the chest of an adult woman,” says Wakasa. “Kodansha did not judge this to be in violation of the law.”
The article notes that guilty verdicts for violating child welfare laws for obscenities carry a maximum prison term of 10 years and a fine of three million yen.
As to a potential violation related to child pornography laws, Wakasa says that a sex act, or possibly even a suggestion thereof, would have to be depicted. “For example, the touching of genitals,” he says. “But in Tomomi’s case, the photo does not get that extreme.”
According to a person affiliated with Kodansha, the photo project received the standard checks by staff members last year. Yukan Fuji says that the controversial image has also been pulled from inclusion in the book.
An entertainment journalist somewhat understands Kodansha’s intentions, saying that Kasai’s E-cup bust is worthy of emphasis. “It’s a shot that high-school students will find exciting,” says the writer. “However, to use the hands of a boy in order to emphasize her plumpness was a mistake.”
A spokesperson for Kodansha said that law enforcement did not apply any external pressure leading up to the postponement of publication of Young Magazine. Instead, it was simply a very costly decision that had to be made. (A.T.)

The father of Super Junior's Siwon, Kiho Choi, recently made some unsavory comments on his Twitter against Japan. The tweets in question claim that Jesus Christ was the only savior during Japan's colonization and that Korea was chosen by God himself over Japan.
He continued by saying, "Think Japan, God gave an opportunity to receive Good news & modern civilization but they got civilization only and became strong country." He also extolled Korea's virtues (no doubt bestowed by Christ himself), "In economic,science,industry,arts,sports and religion Korea becomes top in the world."
The incident comes after Choi made a controversial statement on his Twitter in May in which he criticized gay marriage and Barack Obama's stance on the issue.

Popular Japanese horror icon Sadako from the ‘Ring‘ series, and its latest installment ‘Sadako 3D‘ has got herself her own baseball trading card, which will be released in August.
Sadako is being honored with the card because of her unique opening pitch at a regular Pacific League baseball match on April 25th. The new collection ‘2012 BBM Baseball Cards 2nd Version‘ features a total of 350 cards with the players from all 12 teams in the Pacific League, and Sadako made it into this collection like other celebrities who have thrown an opening pitch. You will be able to purchase the cards as a pack of six for 210 Yen (2.64 USD) or as a box with 30 packs for 6,300 Yen (79 USD).
Although she’s the first horror icon to appear on a baseball trading card, there have already been many celebrities honored in the same way, including Hagimoto Kinichi, Tanihara Shosuke, Lily Franky, Ueta Aya, Minami Akina, Yuuki Maomi, and Kawagoe Tatsuya.

FUCK THE SKY!
Many of you know already that DBSK / TVXQ’s Mirotic was being censored by the Korean Ministry of Health. Well, the edited (cleaned up) version was recently uploaded and it’s basically the same song. The only thing that changed was the line “Under My Skin” to “Under My Sky.” The change just made it Engrish-friendly… what was the point in changing Skin to Sky? How did they get something that was harmful to the youth from “Under My Skin?” There’s been a lot more provocative and explicit language used in KPOP music before, but why the sudden banning of songs now? I can see how someone could misinterpret Rain’s music that was banned, but not this.

What in the world......
The shark that was found in Yoyogi Park was put there by a Tokyo office worker who wanted to photograph it. He has come forward to the police and has since arranged for the shark's disposal. The shark had been on display outside a sushi restaurant near the park. The office worker, aged 25, approached the manager and apparently introduced himself as an artist saying he would like to photograph the shark. The restaurant agreed that he could take the shark. During police questioning, the man stated "I stored the shark at a friend's place and then took it to the park by taxi on the 18th. I was taking photos but then it got too dark. I planned to dispose of the shark the next day." This was how the shark came to be left in the park, wrapped in a plastic sheet. "I was going to collect the shark on the 19th but before I could it had caused a big disturbance," he explained.

TOKYO (TR) – The Tokyo Metropolitan Police confirmed on Tuesday the arrest of the 44-year-old mother of Minami Takahashi, a member of the popular singing group AKB48, for performing obscene acts with a junior-high school boy, reports Jiji Press (Feb. 7).
“I was compelled to do several terrible things,” the mother was quoted by police in admitting to the allegations.
She was fined 500,000 yen for violating an ordinance regarding the healthy development of youths.
According to the suspect, encounters took place in November of last year with her son’s 15-year-old classmate at a residence in Hachioji City.
Takahashi, 20, is the leader of Team A of the all-girl singing troupe. Singles by the band last year claimed the top five positions for CD sales as compiled by entertainment ranking company Oricon.
